Yagba East: Kogi West Senator Sunday Karimi Urges Calm After Bandit Attack, Commiserates Families, Affected Communities.
Lokoja —Senator Sunday Karimi, Sen. Representing Kogi West, has called for calm following a bandit attack and subsequent youth protest in Irunda Ile, Yagba East LGA, where two vigilantes and two young protesters were killed in Isanlu.
In a statement to newsmen, Karimi commiserated with the families of the slain vigilante and the youths, describing them as patriots and urging that very soon there will be an end to the escalating insecurity.
He expressed optimism that “there is light at the end of the tunnel,” assuring that federal and state governments are working to halt the violence. Karimi also praised the police for their professionalism amid tension, urging security forces to exercise restraint and patience while dealing with agitated community.
According to community chief Sunday Oni David, bandits first struck Irunda Ile, killing two vigilantes, prompted youths to block roads and protest. Police allegedly opened fire, resulting in two accidental deaths among the protesters.
State Security Adviser Commander Jerry Omodara confirmed the bandit attack.
Karimi pledged to use the instrumentation of Legislation to protect lives and property in Kogi West and reaffirmed his support for the welfare of the people.
