Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, FCA, is the Commissioner for Finance, Budget & Economic Planning, Kogi State.
Appointed in 2016, reappointed 2020, previously, Asiwaju as he is fondly called, once played the role of Special Adviser on Finance, Economy, Commerce and Investment
His quest for Education began when he bagged NCE Economics/Mathematics, College of Education, Oro. He further studied Accounting, from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he emerged as the Best student in his 100 and 200 Level in 1996‑1997..
Asiwaju worked in Executive and Senior capacity at Zenith Bank, Branch Head, Corporate Banking, a platforms, that strengthen his quest for excellence and to be positively result oriented.

With a thinking cap that does the unusual, his ingenuity came to the fore in Debt Management. Through his efforts, that helped reduced domestic debt from ₦121 bn and ₦38 bn; earning the State Fitch rating B‑,
His dogged determination gave Kogi State a positive outlook with a Debt service ratio falling from 29% (2020) to 11% (2023), well below the 40% sustainability benchmark.
A financial Wizkid, under his watch, the Budget Performance of the State is put at 95% implementation rate for last 7 consecutive years; all because he introduced realistic budgeting, quarterly performance reviews, and a citizen‑budget portal.
Very analytical and decisive, Asiwaju’s strong analytical skills in evaluating complex data and information, and the confidence to make timely, high-quality, and sometimes tough, decisions based on objective information has helped the Kogi State World Bank Collaboration.
Asiwaju’s thorough knowledge of public financial management, accounting, auditing, and relevant regulations, keeping up-to-date with current economic scenarios and industry developments has helped ensured that the State has a Public Governance Reform and Development Project (PSGRDP), geared towards strengthening Public Finance Management. He negotiated bond tenor extension to ease monthly allocation pressure.
His economic Growth and Investment Promotion Drive, saw Asiwaju in the first Kogi delegation to Delaware, USA, to attract investors; established Economic and Investment Management Team to scout deals.
Asiwaju’s integrity and Ethical principles are second to none, serves as cornerstones of his stewardship, building trust and respect.
He midwife, launch plan to leverage gold, iron ore, limestone, tantalite, and agricultural land; processing facilities and infrastructure (roads, power) to support mining.
Towards enhancing agriculture and food security, through his Ministry, saw the release of ₦8 bn for farm clusters, ₦10 bn for road projects (Zone 8, GYB Junction), and $4.5 M for Agriculture Transformation Centres (5‑yr plan).
Asiwaju’s Community Development and Economic Empowerment saw him empower
Youth and MSME with Grants. Distributed ₦25 m in business grants (₦500k‑₦2 m) to 50 youths in Kogi West under his MAAI Network for Ododo initiative for entrepreneurship training. This SME Support Grant scheme is for micro‑enterprises, skill‑acquisition programs, and support for widows/ vulnerable groups.
His intervention in Infrastructure saw to the completion and ongoing construction of 12 roads in Yagba West, 7 in Mopa‑Muro, 5 in Ijumu; rehabilitation of urban and rural roads to boost market access.
Towards Governance and Institutional Strengthening, Asiwaju institutionalized Digital Monitoring. He set up Government Data Unit (GDU) for real‑time budget tracking; quarterly MDA performance reviews with NGOs and citizens.
For transparency, Asiwaju and the State have been recognized by World Bank for Financial Transparency; multiple commendations from MD/CEO Zenith Bank for operational efficiency and team‑player excellence. He also bagged the MD/CEO Commendation as Team Player, from Zenith Bank, 2002.
