OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA,
ASIWJU AHMED BOLA TINUBU, GCFR
Your Excellency,
On behalf of the Kogi Peoples Assembly, I write with a heavy heart and deep concern as the President of this respected body, urging Your Excellency to take decisive and urgent action to halt the rising wave of killings across our nation. The bloodshed has reached an alarming level, and Nigerians are living under constant fear, uncertainty, and hopelessness.
Our country is blessed with great people, rich resources, and a strong military, yet the continuous attacks by bandits, terrorists, and criminal elements have weakened the very fabric of our nation. Families are being wiped out, travellers ambushed, peaceful communities invaded, and innocent citizens kidnapped and murdered daily.
What is most disturbing—and deeply painful—is that even our gallant military personnel, who are sworn to protect our nation, have increasingly become targets. When those who should protect the civilian population are themselves hunted and killed, it means no one is safe. It means the enemy is growing bolder. It means the confidence of the people in the protection of the state is fast eroding.
Your Excellency, Nigeria cannot continue like this. We cannot continue to bury our youths, our security agents, our parents, and our children. We cannot normalise violence. We cannot allow our nation to bleed endlessly.
Mr. President, we appeal passionately for the following:
1. Immediate review and reinforcement of national security strategies, especially in the North where banditry is becoming a daily nightmare.
2. Provision of advanced intelligence, surveillance, and modern combat equipment to our security forces, who are operating under challenging and sometimes inadequate conditions.
3. Reform and motivation within the Armed Forces, Police, and other security agencies, ensuring the welfare of officers is prioritized so morale remains high.
4. A nationwide coordinated operation against bandit enclaves, ensuring that criminals have no hiding place anywhere in Nigeria.
5. Strengthening of community-based intelligence networks so that local knowledge can complement national operations.
Your Excellency, Nigerians are calling out for your fatherly intervention. The tears of mothers, the cries of widows, the fears of young people, and the silence of innocent souls lost to these senseless killings must touch us all. Leadership is responsibility, and at this critical moment, the nation looks up to you to restore peace, safety, and the dignity of human life.
As a patriotic Nigerian, and as President of the Kogi Peoples Assembly, I plead with Your Excellency to act swiftly. Please save our country from drifting further into chaos. Please let your legacy be one that Nigerians will remember as the era when the killings stopped and hope returned.
The Kogi Peoples Assembly stands ready to support every initiative aimed at protecting the lives of Nigerians and restoring order.
May God grant you the wisdom, courage, and strength to lead our nation through these challenging times.
