Alhaji Suleiman Baba Ali ( SBA) was born over six decades ago and attended Holy Trinity Transferred Primary School, Lokoja. After which he proceeded to Government Secondary School, Koton Karfi for his Secondary education and then to Zungeru College of Advanced Studies, Bida where he completed his A-Levels. He was the Social Welfare Director of the Students Union Govt 1979-1980, ZUCAS Bida.
He had his BSc Business Administration with a Second Class Honours Upper Division from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University in 1984 and also finished a Master of Science Degree in Business Administration from the foremost University of Lagos, Akoka-Lagos in 1991. He was also a member of the Students Representative Assembly, Kongo Campus Student Union Government in 1982, ABU Zaria.
He has attended various management traininings including The Advanced Project management skills course at the Crown Agent International Training Centre in United Kingdom (UK).
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (chartered), Member National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), and Member Advertising Practitioner’s Council of Nigeria (APCON), Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and member of the IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja, Nigeria.
The man SBA started his working career as a Corp member at Avis Petroleum Company Limited, Lagos after which he started Capital Oil PLC as a Co-Founder where he left as Executive Director Marketing after haven held several positions in the Company.
Armed with almost ten years experience in the Oil industry working in Capital Oil PLC, he left to set up Equitorial Petrochemical Services Limited (an Oil and Gas Marketing and Services Company).
He ran Equitorial Petrochemicals as Managinging Director/Chief Executive.
He entered active Politics in 1990/91 as a member of the National Republican Convention and worked for the success of the Gubernatorial campaign of the Late Prince Abubakar Audu.
At the beginning of this Republic in 1999 he joined the All People’s Party (APP) and was invited by the first and Second Executive Governor of Kogi State late Prince Abubakar Audu, to serve in his cabinet as the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Kogi State Government. A position he held until May 2003. He was also the Chairman of the State Action Committee on HIV/AID and led the Kogi State Pilgrims to Mecca in 2001 as the Amirul Hajj.
Three years later in 2006, he was called to answer the Clarion call to serve his father land at the National level as the pioneer Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Team Nigeria Trust Fund by President/Commander in Chief of the Army Forces of Nigeria, President Olusegun Obasanjo.
While in service as MD/CEO of Team Nigeria Trust Fund he was appointed as Chairman of the Communications and Marketing Commission of the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (an organ of the African Union) and also served as a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee on National Sports Development. He had also served as a member of the Board of Fellows of the Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered).
He left Team Nigeria Trust Fund in 2008 to return to his private businesses in Equitorial Petrochemical Services and also Composite Brand Exposure Limited (a Marketing Communication Agency).
He also established Waterstone Projects Limited (a Civil Engineering, Contruction and Procurement outfit) and Waterstone Press Limited (a Printing and Publishing Company). He also served for a few years on the Board of Nigeria Stockbrokers Limited, the first Stockbroking firm in Nigeria.
Alhaji Suleiman Baba Ali contested for the Governorship position Primary Election in Kogi State 2015 along with 27 other Aspirants under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
He has just been appointed as a member of the Governing Board of the North Central Development Commission by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Alhaji Ali is the Gabi Sayyadi of Lokoja and member Lokoja Traditional Council. He was also turbaned as the Mutawali Arewa Nupe by the Etsu Nupe Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, CFR. He also holds the title of the Wali of Tawari Kingdom.
Alhaji Suleiman Baba Ali is widely respected for his commitment to humanitarian services, job creation, democracy, justice and fairness. He has been described as a patriotic leader of substance, and an icon of hope to contemporary Kogi politics. He is very passionate about the development of the Lokoja/Koton Karfi Federal Constituency and Kogi State in general.
He is very widely traveled and married with children.
