KOSIEC Pledges Collaboration with Persons with Disabilities Ahead of 2026 LG Polls

The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has pledged collaboration with Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state to ensure their full participation in the forthcoming 2026 local government elections.
The Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, made this known when he received a delegation of PWDs from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs (Office of Disability Affairs) at the Commission’s headquarters in Lokoja on Tuesday. He was joined by other members of the Commission during the meeting.
Hon. Eri requested the group to provide comprehensive statistical data of their members to enable the Commission to make adequate preparations and provisions that will promote inclusiveness in the electoral process. He also asked for information on the educational qualifications of members and copies of existing PWD laws to enhance effective collaboration.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Secretary of the PWD association, Abdulkareem Nazir, called for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in the grassroots electoral process. He appealed for the provision of assistive devices, accessible voting environments, and dedicated queues to ensure PWDs can participate fully and comfortably during the elections.
Nazir further urged the Commission to consider the employment of PWDs in the conduct of the elections, noting that government policy provides for at least five percent inclusion of persons with disabilities in recruitment exercises.
