PROFILE SUMMARY
Professor Amupitan is a Professor of Law with specialization in Law of Evidence and
Corporate Governance. He attended Baptist Primary School, Ayetoro-Gbede, Kogi State
and secondary school at St. Barnabas Secondary School, Kabba Kogi State. He also
attended the Kwara State College of Technology (now Kwara State Polytechnic), Ilorin,
for his HSC Certificate. He obtained his LL.B. LL.M, and Ph.D in law from the
University of Jos, as well as B.L from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.
Professor Amupitan is an Innovative Professor bringing proven success in implementing
technology-based curriculum delivery and assessment tools. Passionate about fostering
academic development and success for every student. Contributed significantly to Law
reform and legal education in Nigeria, having taught Law Students in Nigerian
Universities for 31 years. He was also a member of the 8th House of Representatives
Committee on Law Reform, which worked on over 500 Laws in conjunction with the
Nigerian Institute of Legislative Studies (now National Institute for Legislative and
Democratic Studies).
He published 6 books in the area of Company Law, Corporate Governance, Law of
Evidence and Law of Trust: apart from several peer-reviewed articles. He served in
several Councils and Boards, such as the Governing Council, University of Jos, Council
of Legal Education, Council of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Abuja
Investment Limited, and Netel@Africa.com Board. He was a legal Consultant to the 8th
House of Representatives in Nigeria and a lead Consultant on the Petroleum Industry
Reform. He was also at various time a consultant to the Central Bank of Nigeria,
Department of Petroleum Resources, National Human Rights Commission, Nigerian
Institute of Legislative Studies etc. He has been involved in the practice of Law for three
decades and has also represented the House of Representatives in several court cases in
Nigeria. Have also handled several electoral matters (Governorship, National Assembly
& State House of Assembly Election Petition), land matters, constitutional matters and
criminal cases from the High Court to the Supreme Court, which is the highest Court in
Nigeria. He assisted in harmonising the position of the House of Representatives and the
Senate of the National Assembly on the 2018 Electoral Bill, under the auspices of NILS,
which the former President, Late Muhammadu Buhari, vetoed.
He rose to the rank of Professor of Law in 2008 and was appointed a Senior Advocate of
Nigeria in 2014. He is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration),
University of Jos and Pro-Chancellor, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji, Ara-Keji,
Osun State.
He also generated grant proposals for funding for e-learning and capacity building for
academic and administrative units of the University of Jos, particularly the Faculty of
Law research, winning $150,000 for the digitisation project from the Carnegie
Corporation in 2004. Presently, he is a member of the Spatial AI R&D $12,000,000.00
Grant (currently undergoing due diligence) for the University of Jos, from the EON
Reality Board, USA. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, International bar
Association, Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) and Member/Trustee of Nigerian
Association of Law Teachers (NALT).
He is also a Fulbright Scholar- having been appointed by the United States Institute of
Education (IIE) as a Visiting Fulbright Scholar to the Boyd Law College, University of
Iowa, United States, in 2004.
