The people of Kabba Bunu Ijumu Federal Constituency have been asked to shun
politics of sentiments, asked to value-driven support in the politics of 2027 general election.
According to Benjamin Atitebi, who hails from Ijumu LGA, said he has followed the politics of representation in the District, maintained that both Kabba Bunu LGA and Ijumu have had equally number of years of representation.
According to a statement issued to Newsmen in Lokoja he said, ” As someone who values relationships and transparency, I’m often asked about my stance on the 2027 House of Representatives election. I want to inform the general public that Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole Olushola is not only my mentor and boss but also a father figure to me.
“My relationship with him has grown beyond politics, I owe him my loyalty and I’m committed to standing by him in his future endeavors.
“Someone questioned my decision on why I choose to support someone from Kabba-Bunu over a fellow ijumu brother. However, politics is a game of interest, and I don’t play politics of sentiments. The argument that Kabba-Bunu has held the seat for 12 consecutive years doesn’t hold water, as ijumu traded the House of Representatives seat for a Senate, which we held for 16 uninterrupted years.
“For those who care to know, Kabba-Bunu and Ijumu have had equal number of years of representation in the lower chamber, listed the list of past and present representatives and the year the served”.
He explained that
Ijumu LG have in – 1979-1983 through Hon. Dele Abodunde(Gbede Axis) served. In 1999-2003, Hon. Abiodun Ojo ( ijumu oke). From the year 2007-2011, Hon. Dino Melaye (Gbede Axis) while in 2023- till date we presently have Hon. Idris Salman (Gbede Axis).
He added that Kabba-Bunu LG had from 2003-2007 served with Hon. Duro Bunu from land, while From 2007-2023, we had Hon. T.J. Yusuf.
He therefore said given the above facts, “I believe Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole Olushola is best fit for the position. My support is based on his merit and leadership qualities, not sentiment or zoning. Politics is about interest, and I’m committed to transparency and equity”.
Benjamin Atitebi called on the people of the Federal Constituency to seek merit in the forthcoming House of Representatives election, said it is crystal clear that Hon. Mathew Kolawole is eminently qualified, with Kabba Bunu and Ijumu LGA having had equal shots at the House of Representative seat.
