Halt Moves For State Creation, Group Tells Tinubu

A Socio – Political Group,Concerned Edo Citizens Forum, has called on the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to further move concerning the creation of State Police in the country.
The group in a statement signed by
the Convener, Comrade Roy Oribhabor, “called on the President to jettison STATE POLICE citing the nation’s weak institutions.
He noted considering state policing is not feasible adding that the purpose will be defeated and counterproductive for the benefit of all.’
Oribhabor said, “We commend the creation of State Police in Nigeria as indicated by the president of Nigeria with strong reservations and concerns.
“As critical stakeholders and patriots in the Nigeria project, we hereby call on the President not to create STATE POLICE with weak institutions. Otherwise, the purpose will be defeated and counterproductive for the benefit of all.”
According to him, Research conducted by us clearly shows that Nigeria institutions are weak and lack the basic potency to withstand the spillover effect of state police.
For example, the creation of state electoral commissions has negated the principles of democracy within the local government administration and has further reduced local governments election to caricatures and position for the boys which has drastically performed in local government management.
The We strongly opposed the creation of state police without strengthening the institutions.
As at today in Nigeria, some governors are gradually becoming emperors in their domains without clear vision to develop their states but invest massively on selfish agendas.
“We are also aware that state Police are long overdue in doctrines and principles and also commendable, but our institutions are too weak to handle it. Otherwise, chaos, manipulation, oppression, and collapse are inevitable. “Oribhabor said.
The group however called on President Tinubu not to be in a hurry to implement the calls but to observe critical evaluation declaring that anything worth doing is worth doing well.
They urged the president to invest more in food production, encourage farming activities to help fight and reduce insecurity, and also demonstrate sincerely in the fight of poverty. It’s the only strong institution that will rescue Nigerians for Nigeria. Oribhabor concluded.
