2024 FLOOD IMPACTS: KOGI STATE FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE TEAM VISITS IDAH, OFU, IBAJI AND AJAOKUTA LGAs ON-THE-SPOT ASSESSMENT

 

 


Kogi State flood disaster response team under the chairmanship of the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Joel Salifu visited the communities ravaged by flood in the following LGAs; Idah, Ofu, Ibaji and Ajaokuta Local Government Areas.

The team led by the Secretary of the State flood disaster response team, Alh Mouktar Atimah, was received by HRH Chief John Egwemi, the Ejeh of Ibaji and Chairman Ibaji Traditional Council in his Palace at Idah.

In his opening remark on behalf of the State Government, Alh Mouktar Atimah re-echoed the readiness and proactiness of the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for addressing the menace of flood disaster in the State.

He added that the assessment visit has provided key findings on extensive disruption of essential services and economic activities. Both agriculture and non-agriculture activities were affected leading to substantial income losses.

He further reiterated the Government’s commitment to addressing the sufferings of affected communities through the flood disaster response team headed by the Deputy Governor His Excellency Joel Salifu.

In his welcome address, the Ejeh Of Ibaji, HRH Chief John Egwemi thanked the State flood disaster response team for the prompt visit.

The traditional ruler further lamented on the impact of the flood on his people highlighting loss of farm produce, properties and displacement of the entire communities in the Local Government Area. He described the flood experienced this year as disastrous therefore calling on the state government for quick intervention.

The State flood disaster response team conducted on-the-spot assessments visit to Ogwojibo, Ofobo, Otta, Ichekene, Ichalla, Ogegele, Adumu, Ega, Itobe, Ajaokuta native town and Geregu across Idah, OFU, Ibaji, and Ajaokuta Local Government Areas.

The team also visited the palaces of Onu Itobe, HRH Chief Salihu Adaji Ocholi and Onu Ajaokuta HRH Chief Mustapha Ibrahim Ayeniba. The Chiefs appreciated the commitment of the State Government and thanked the flood response team for the visit. The Chiefs lamented on the same flood impacts in their domains as earlier highlighted by the Ejeh of Ibaji, HRH Chief John Egwemi.
