Ahead of the various political parties primaries leading to the 2023 General Elections, Nigerian women have called on all the political parties to take the process of selecting their flag bearers beyond traditional party politicking as to salvage the nation from its failed state status to a Nigeria of prosperity for all.
The women under the aegis of “WOMEN FOR A SECURED NATION” rising from their bi-annual national executive Committee meeting in Benin City said “the stability or otherwise of a nation affects women and children more than the men who are the major decision makers and policy formulators”.
We , “as a group of Nigerians who will be directly affected by whatever decision taken at the primaries of the parties are pleading with the parties to take us and the future of our children and youths into consideration before selecting their candidates and flag bearers.”
While briefing newsmen of the outcome of their meeting, the Zonal publicity Secretary, South-South zone, Judith Onyekwere said “we are all aware of the current status of Nigeria as a nation, as well as its status among committee of nations. We all know that this is not the best of times as the nation is faced with multifarious challenges ranging from Security, Economic, Education, Unemployment and loss of interest in the oneness of the nation among other challenges”
“We are aware that all the Nigerians that have shown interest in heading the nation are very qualified in their own rights and may have designed whatever way they feel best to attempt to solve these problems. But the fact now is that we go beyond the ordinary as there is no longer time before the Economic doomsday comes knocking”.
We believe that Dr Akinwumi Adesina, with all senses of modesty is the rightman for this salvaging job at this point.
“As Agriculture minister in Nigeria, Dr Akinwumi Adesina’s legacy still lingers. His support for Nigeria as the President African Development Bank(AfDB), most especially in the Agriculture sector could be attested to by all”.
“We are therefore calling on the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) leadership and delegates to invest in Dr. Akinwumi Adesina by presenting him as the party’s presidential flag bearer in the election.”
According to them, it will not be out of place if we also enjoined all other political parties to join hands by adopting Dr Akinwumi Adesina as our collective and unifying candidate”.
The national co-ordinator, Hajia Muinat Abdulrasheed said ” I have never met nor spoken with this man Adesina. He does not know me and am not sure he has ever heard about me or any of us in this project. We are into this because of Nigeria, Nigeria women, our children, our future and for a better nation. We are pleading with our husbands, our fathers, our brothers in the political circle to see things the way we are seeing it for the sake of Nigeria”.
