EDO 2020: We will shock our opponents in Medals Table- Kogi State Sports Commissioner

Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Honourable Idris Musa has cautioned opponents not to underestimate the preparedness of the State in the ongoing National Sports Festival, tagged Edo 2020, assuring that the State contingents is out to surprise other states in the medals table.

Honourable Idris Musa stated this while addressing the state contingents in their camp in Benin city on Wednesday.
He urged them to abide by the rules of the game and compete fairly with others.

He expressed optimism with the preparation put in place by the athletes and the support given by the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the team would win laurels at the competitions.

The Commissioner commended the enthusiasm and high spirit exhibited by the contingents, saying “they should remain focused and committed to their goals of winning medals for the state”.

In his words, “I advise you to be law-abiding, stay within the rules of the game and compete fairly and put in your best.”

‘I can see that they are in very high spirit and ready for the game. I know they will do us proud and we will welcome them back to Kogi State as heroes”.

The state Director of Sports, Mr. Onipe Obakachi thanked the Commissioner for finding time to visit the state team in their camp, saying his visit serves as a moral booster to the states representatives adding that they would do the state proud at the competition.

According to him, the contingent would continue to lift the banner and would eschew any act that can put the name of the state in disrepute.

Responding on behalf of the Athletes, a Weightlifter, Sarah Mathew thanked the Commissioner for the visit and promised that athletes will make the State proud by winning laurels.

She also lauded the state government for their support at ensuring the state participate in the festival.

It would be recalled that the competition, tagged ‘Edo 2020’ was slated for last year but could not hold until now as a result of the covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
