The Kogi Youths under the aegis of Intellectual Elites Youth Association of Nigeria ( IEYAN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately directs Security Forces to put a halt to the killings of Young Nigerians who are exercising their civic Rights to protest against police brutality.
This is as the group has challenged governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello to channel his administration:s energy to the provision of infrastructural developments of the state and work on issues bordering on the welfare and wellbeing of the youth.
Addressing newsmen at the end of the emergency meeting of the group on Thursday in Lokoja, the Chairman , Aina Charles Abraham lamented at the conduct of the Present Government whose conduct has thrown the youths into confusion and deprivation, adding that the only way to let the authorities to be aware of their plight is through peaceful protest.
He said for the youth to protest against the brutality and extortion meted to them by members of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and instead of the authorities to do the needful , decided to apply draconian measures by outrigthly shooting of the youths.
The chairman , noted that the youths who are being weighted down by the effect of corruption by the APC led administration and the high handedness of the Security Agencies against them , have no option than to take to the streets to draw the attention of the world to their plights.
He added that aside the police brutality, the youths are demanding for a migration to electronic voting to prevent Political Elites from manipulation, and for Government to deliver good governance that will improve the living standards of Nigerians.
He said on the basis of the laudable issues raised in the protest, his group has to strongly align its support for the protest and called for immediate stoppage to killings of the youths.
