In a surprising turn of events, Austin Okai, a prominent critic of former Governor Yahaya Bello, has extended an olive branch to the current Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, describing him as his “friend.”

Okai, known for his outspoken criticism of the Bello administration, has on several occasions commended Governor Ododo since he assumed office. This is despite the fact that Ododo is widely regarded as a direct disciple of the former governor.

Recently, Okai and some other individuals even led a protest against Governor Ododo,

However, during a recent encounter at the National Mosque, where the final burial rites for the late Chief of Defense, 4-Star Army General, Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, were held, Okai and Ododo engaged in a cordial conversation.

“I am the one to tell the government the truth where none can,” Okai stated, emphasizing the importance of being able to offer honest feedback to those in power. “Your friend should be able to tell you the truth,” he added, suggesting a newfound rapport with the governor.

The governor, accompanied by the Kogi State Auditor General, Yakubu Yusuf Okala, and his Chief of Staff, was observed greeting everyone in attendance, demonstrating his commitment to showing respect and solidarity during the solemn occasion.

This unexpected development raises questions about the dynamics between Okai and the current governor. Has Okai’s stance softened towards Ododo, or is this a strategic shift in his approach? Only time will tell if this newfound “friendship” will lead to a more collaborative relationship between the two figures in Kogi’s political landscape.
