Stakeholders at a conflict scan analysis in Kogi State organised by Seach for Common Ground, have advocated the mopping up of arms to help stem the increased rate of Post election violence noticed after the Governorship election that held on 16 November, 2019.

The stakeholders noted that the high rate of proliferation of arms in the state as a result of the election may have allegedly informed increased rate of increased kidnapping, crime rate, killings and destruction of properties,
The stakeholders called on security agencies to heighten internal security, patrol, surveillarnce towards mopping up arms in the hands of the pepetrators of the violence and crime.
The meeting also advocated Post election engagement in some locations to ease tension and conflict created during the last Governorship election.
According to the stakeholders, the post election engagement would help the aggrieved stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue to seek ways of common ground to resolve conflict and political violence.
The stakeholders equally called on security agencies to apprehend and prosecute pepetrators of violence so as to serve as a detterent to others, while communities were tasked to be more vigilant and watchful towards checking Post election violence.
Speaking at the meeting, Omolola Mamedu, Early Warning Coordinator for Search for Common Ground, lamented the increased violence in the 2019 Kogi State Governorship election.
She disclosed that Seach for Common Ground is still observing post election phase violence in the 21 LGAs in the state, said the organizations observers are tracking conflict indicators, violent intents and hate speech.
She disclosed that the ultimate goal of the early warning system is to facilitate an early response by stakeholders with the ability to prevent violence after the Governorship election in the state.
